The Undomestic Goddess

39. The Undomestic Goddess by Sophie Kinsella (Fiction)

The Undomestic GoddessSamantha Sweeting, a stressed and workaholic lawyer for high-powered law firm Carter Spink, makes a mistake that ruins her chance at a partnership in the firm. She walks out of the building in a daze, and inadvertently accepts a position as a housekeeper, even though she knows nothing about cooking or housework. She eventually learns to cope, though not without a few misadventures and some help from new friends.

Since I knew that my cousin was going to be be watching the Chelsea vs. Liverpool game most of the afternoon, I brought my roommate’s copy of The Undomestic Goddess with me when I went to see him today. (Football’s better than most sports, but still so not my thing. David’s team won, though, which was nice for him. Yay Liverpool!) It was much better than I was expecting, although that actually says more about my expectations than about the quality of the writing. It was entertaining, though: light and quite funny in places. Unfortunately, I thought the last few chapters were quite a bit sillier than the rest of the book, but if you’re looking for good beach reading, this isn’t a bad choice.
