4. The Good Earth by Pearl S. Buck (Fiction)
World Lit Challenge: China
The story of the life of Wang Lung, a Chinese farmer, in Pre-revolutionary China. The author won the Pulitzer Prize for this novel, and the Nobel Prize in literature less than a decade later.
For some reason, I’m always quite surprised when a prize-winning book lives up to its reputation. The Good Earth had a lot to live up to, but it definitely deserves all the praise. A genuinely engrossing read, and definitely one of the best novels I’ve ever read.
